Police in Sichili have recovered two offensive weapons and apprehended 19 people in connection with the violence that happened in the area on Monday, night.

Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda says this happened after UPND cadres mobilised themselves and gave chase to a Toyota Hilux Registration number ABZ 4257 which they suspected to have been carrying the people who were involved in Monday’s shooting.

In a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Ms Chanda says the cadres who were using two vehicles Registration Numbers ALZ 2695 and ALZ 1106 impounded the Toyota Hilux and drove it to their camp where they later extensively damaged it.

Ms Chanda says officers who made a follow up on the case found the three vehicles parked at the UPND camp.

She says upon searching, one of the vehicles was found with two brand new machetes.

Ms Chanda says the 19 include the driver of the vehicle where the machetes were found and the UPND Campaign manager.

The Police Spokesperson says investigations into the matter continue.

Meanwhile, more officers have been sent to the area to beef-up security.

Ms Chanda says currently, the situation is calm and people should not be afraid of the heavy presence of the officers as they are there to maintain law and order.
