Government has with immediate effect dissolved the Boards of Directors of Times Printpak and Zambia Daily Mail.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili said the two Boards have served and nearly exhausted the three years mandate they were given.

Mr. Kambwili said the tenure of office for the two Boards was due to end on May, 24, 2015 having been constituted on May 24, 2012.

He said as Minister mandated to over the two media houses, he had decided to dissolve the two Boards in order to give ample time to scrutinise would-be members of the new Boards.

Mr. Kambwili explained that it takes time before new members of the boards are screened by security agencies, hence the need to dissolve the current Boards in advance.

 

In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Kambwili paid tribute to the out-going Board members for their commendable efforts to oversee operations of the two companies during their tenure.

He said the two Boards have been committed, innovative and worked tirelessly with their respective managements to ensure that the two companies are run efficiently and effectively.

The outgoing Board members for Times Printpak Zambia are Michael Musonda who was Chairperson, Engwase Banda-Mwale, Judge Kabazo Chanda, Simon Bota, Eustace Nkandu, Lawrence Moola, Penelope Mapoma and Francis Lwanga.

The outgoing Board members for the Zambia Daily Mail comprised of Tamala Kambikambi who was the chairperson, Caroline Phiri-Chibbonta, Philimon Songolo, Oliver Kanene, Friday Ng’ona, Bryson Mumba, Famous Kabwe and Exhildah Lumbwe.
And Government has terminated the contracts of Zambia Daily Mail Managing Director Bryson Mumba and Times of Zambia Managing Director Francis Lwanga.

 

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has since commended the two for their respective contributions to the two companies.

Mr. Kambwili has since announced the appointment of Nebat Mbewe who is the current Deputy Managing Director at the Zambia Daily Mail to act as Managing Director while Beston Ng’onga will act as Managing Director for the Times Printpak.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kambwili said government’s long term objectives and ambitions in the media industry remain unchanged.

He said as Minister with the mandate to appoint the two Boards, he will ensure that both men and women are given the opportunity to run the two companies and perform to the best of their abilities.

Mr. Kambwili said the key role of the two institutions is to ensure the citizenry are informed of government policies and development agenda.
