Government has directed Kansanshi Copper Mines management in Solwezi against effecting the impending job cuts at the mine.
Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda says management should rescind its plan to lay off miners at the Solwezi plant on Friday.
The Labour Minister issued the directive in Kitwe today when he met members of the Chambers of Mines of Zambia.
Mr. Shamenda has however, not clearly stated why the miners are to be laid off by Kansanshi Mine.
Meanwhile, Mr. Shamenda has advised other mining firms in the country not to resort to job cuts.
The Labour Minister said any mining firms with operational challenges should consider engaging in dialogue with Government.
But the Mine Workers Union of Zambia -MUZ says the targeted miners are not directly employed by Kansanshi Mines.
MUZ General Secretary Joseph Chewe has told Znbc News in a separate interview that the affected miners are employees engaged by a contractor.
