Govt warns exploitative Chinese contractor
Milenge, February 27, 2015, ZANIS…… Milenge District Commissioner Mukupa Mutale has warned a Chinese contractor building a hospital in the area against exploiting the local people.

ZANIS reports that the DC has warned T and Heminence against practicing the unlawful act.

The warning comes after the District Commissioner received reports that some Chinese nationals engaged to construct a District Hospital in Milenge had beaten one of the workers using an iron bar.

The District Commissioner told ZANIS in an interview yesterday that government will not hesitate to have the contract terminated if the Chinese company continued exploiting the local people.

Mr Mutale urged the contractor to observe the labour laws adding that no worker should be subjected to assault when carrying out the work they are employed for.

He added that workers should be paid decently and not be subjected to slavery wages.

Mr Mutale has since called on workers to report any cases of assault to the labour office if they ever found themselves in such a situation.
