The Office of the Vice President is to engage the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications in order to ensure that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) builds high quality bridges.

Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Stephen Kampyongo said his office needs to work with experts in order for the DMMU to have quality works on bridges

Mr. Kampyongo told ZANIS in an interview that most of the bridges constructed under the DMMU that have been washed away were as a result of poor workmanship.

He said through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), his office was ready to reach out to people in need.

He has meanwhile thanked President Lungu re-appointing him saying it was a great honour and privilege to work under the first female Vice President in the country.

Mr. Kampyongo said his role was to ensure that government reaches out to the remotest parts of the country.

He said he was aware that during the rain season, calamities such as floods befall most parts of the country.

Mr. Kampyongo said his office will ensure that DMMU reaches out to the affected areas and that no starvation is recorded this year.

He said the DMMU was equipped with stock and was on the ground to face calamities that may occur.
