Grade 12 results, 66,971 candidates obtain certificates

A total of 66, 971 candidates who sat for the 2014 Grade 12 examinations have obtained school certificates.

Of the 66, 971 candidate who have obtained school certificates, 38, 992 are boys while 27, 979 are girls.

This is from the 122,056 candidates that entered for the exams out of whom only 119,862 sat for the exams.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this (Friday) morning, Education Minister Michael Kaingu has observed that the 2014 Grade 12 examinations pass rate represents a decline from 60.21 percent recorded in 2013 to 55.87 percent in 2014.

Dr. Kaingu also notes that the 119,862 candidates that sat for the 2014 exams represent an increase of 14.4 percent compared to the 104,809 candidates that sat for the exams in 2013.

He has further expressed concern that a total of 2,197 candidates were absent from the exams representing a marginal decrease in absenteeism rate from 2.0 percent in 2013 to 1.8 percent in 2014.
