ZAWA arrest 62-yr old poacher in Kalabo district

 

ZANIS, Kalabo, February 12,2015, ZANIS —–  The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrested three suspected poachers including a 62-year-old man of Tee village in Chief Mwanamambo’s area for unlawful possession of government trophy and fire arms.

 

ZANIS reports that Liuwa National Park Ranger  Safely Mulala who confirmed the development in an interview , today.

 

 

Mr. Mulala named the 62-year-old suspect as Nyambe Muwina while the other two as Nalikena Liwena 41 and Kabanda Kabanda both of Kangeulu village of Chief Kaongolo chiefdom.

 

Muwina was found with a muzzle loading gun while Liwena and Kabanda were found with one tail of a wildebeest, two AK47 and one round ammunition each, he said.

 

He said the unlawful possession of fire arms was contrary to ZAWA act 110 number 10 of 1998 of the laws of Zambia.

 

Mr Mulala expressed great concern on the increasing number of people in possession of illegal fire arms in the National Park.

 

The three suspects brought the number of confiscated fire arms in the Park to 12, a development the Ranger described as worrying especially in the fight against poaching.

 

Mr  Mulala called for massive sensitisation of the local communities especially those living inside the National Park on the dangers of illegally possessing guns.
