The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has said sanity is slowly returning to the notorious Chibolya compound following the concurrent arrests that have been conducted in the area.
DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo said success has been scored in ensuring that calm is restored in the once ‘no-go’ area for law enforcement agencies.
Ms. Katongo said the drugs that people are now being found with are minimal.
“We have continued with the operation in the area and the check-ups have been successful because the people are now trafficking in minimal quantities of drugs such as 1 kg,” she told ZANIS in an interview.
Last year, DEC, a combined team of Zambia Police Service and the Zambia Intelligence Officers successfully raided Chibolya and arrested several people for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis, cocaine and marijuana.
Some of the arrested people have since been tried in the courts of law and jailed accordingly in order to rid the compound of illicit drugs.
