54 persons with disabilities empowered
Mwininlunga, Feb 2, 2015, ZANIS….Government has reaffirmed its
commitment to uplifting the living standards of persons with
disabilities in the North western province.

The government says this will be done through various economic empowerment programs in
Mwinilunga district of the North-western province.

Mwinilunga District Senior Agricultural Officer Admson Tembo said government
recognizes the potential that persons with disabilities have in
positively contributing to national development hence the need to
economically empower them.

Mr Tembo was speaking in Mwinilunga district during the handover of
goats to 54 persons with disabilities under the goat pass-on community
based rehabilitation program organized by the Zambia Agency for Persons
with Disabilities at the weekend.

Mr Tembo said government’s desire was to see persons with disabilities
in communities become self-reliant and food secure and further
appealed to the beneficiaries to positively embrace the goat pass-on
program as a revolving project so that others could also benefit in
the future.

And Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities Provincial Coordinator
Oscol Mondoma said the project is aimed at promoting independent
living among persons with disabilities.

Mr Mondoma said once the project is well-managed, it could generate
income for persons with disabilities to meet their needs other than
depending on aid.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries Derick Mukuma thanked
government for the empowerment program saying it would go a long way in
improving their lives.
