Inspector General of police Stella Libongani has warned political party cadres that Police will not tolerate any form of violence during next week’s presidential by-election.
Ms Libongani told QFM News that the Police service will not condone any form of political violence in the country.
She says cadres ought to know that when they are arrested they will be prosecuted as an individual and not as a party and thus the need for them to refrain from political violence.
Ms. Libongani says the police will sternly deal with perpetrators of violence and that anyone found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.
She has reaffirmed the Zambia Police service’s commitment to ensuring that all political cadres conduct themselves within the confines of the law during and after the elections.
The Police Inspector General adds that cadres will have themselves to blame if they continue with their political violence.
