Govt. releases K 1.2 m to build chiefs palaces

Government has released K1.2 million to kick-start the construction of chiefs’ palaces in Northern Province.

 

Northern Province Permanent Secretary Hlobotha Nkunika said the funds released  through the ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs will be used to construct housing units at senior Chief Nsokolo of Mbala, Senior Chieftainess Chungu of Luwingu and Chief Mumpolokoso.

 

Mr. Nkunika was speaking today when he led a team of government officers to inspect the site earmarked for the construction of the new palace at senior Chief Nsokolo’s palace.

 

He assured chiefs in the province that government was committed to provide decent accommodation for traditional leaders, adding that more housing units will be built in every chiefdom in the province.

 

Mr. Nkunika added that the housing units which will also include the queen’s quarters and offices, will initially be powered by solar energy before joining the national power service lines.

 

He reiterated government’s commitment to improving the welfare of chiefs’ countrywide.

 

And Senior Chief Nsokolo has commended government for striving to improve the well-being of traditional leaders in the country.

 

Chief Nsokolo has since appealed to government to connect water in his chiefdom as his subjects are forced to draw water at far flung areas.

 

Mr. Nkunika was accompanied by Mbala District Commissioner Best Kabulembe, Northern Province Chiefs’ Affairs Officer Wallace Moonga and other senior government officials.
