Govt. Installs data portal

—–Government has successfully installed the first ever E-Government statistical data Portal with assistance from the African Development bank.

Speaking during the launch at government complex today in Lusaka , Transport, Works, Supply and communications minister Yamfwa Mukanga disclosed that the statistical data portals have been installed in three key ministries namely Finance, Labour and social security and Transport, Works, Supply and communications.

While other government institution installed with data portals are Bank of Zambia and the Zambia Revenue Authority.

Mr Mukanga explained that government decided to install data portals following the increase in demand for statistical data on development programmes by the general public.

He said the data portals are aimed at creating a platform for sharing national statistical data on various programmes government is undertaking in different parts of the country. 

The Minister said the development and successfully installation of the data portal is cardinal to monitoring progress on the various developmental projects government is implementing.

And African Development Bank Group Principal, Country Economist Peter Rasmussen said the installation of data portals has been the desire of the African Development Bank to create an African information highway.

Mr Rasmussen said the creation of the African information highway will significantly increase access to quality data for managing and monitoring development results in African countries.
