Some  members of the opposition MMD in Mungwi district in the Northern province have threatened to defect to other political parties if embattled party president   Nevers Mumba is barred from standing on the party ticket in the forthcoming presidential by-election.

District chairman Wilfred Besa who was franked by his Secretary Bernard Mumbi and Youth Secretary Boniface Numba also condemned the coming back to active politics of former President Rupiah Banda.

The MMD has been embroiled in leadership wrangles which culminated in the suspension of Dr. Mumba as party president a decision which he has since challenged in court.

In a statement to ZANIS in Kasama today, the three party leaders said as far as they were concerned, Dr Mumba was the sole candidate for the MMD in the January 20 2015 presidential by-election.

They have since warned that if the top leadership does not heed to their concerns the entire district will resign to rally behind an opposition leader.

They charged that the come-back of former President Rupiah Banda was a recipe for anarchy and confusion and have since appealed to him to rescind his decision.
