North-west MMD happy with RB candidature

The opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) in North-western province has declared to support the candidature of former president Rupiah Banda in the forthcoming presidential by election.

Provincial MMD Chairperson Kabukisha Sansakuwa said in Solwezi that decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to pick on Mr Rupiah Banda as a presidential candidate is the right one and the entire leadership in the province is happy.

Mr Sansakuwa said the party has re organized itself and has started its campaigns for the presidential by election set for January 20, 2015.

Mr Rupiah Banda was a presidential contender in the 2011 general elections and lost to the late President Michael Sata.

Mr Banda retired from active politics in 2012 and Dr Nevers Mumba succeeded him as party president.

Yesterday the MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) suspended Dr Mumba for misconduct.
