Bishop, 9 others deny assault charge

JESUS Soul Winning Ministries Bishop Rose Kayanda and nine others have pleaded not guilty to assaulting Lusaka magistrate Exhildah Chanda and her husband, Robison.
Kayanda, 52,  and her nine co-accused denied assaulting   Mrs Chanda and her husband and maliciously damaging  property worth K6,000 on September 25 this year.
Kayanda is jointly charged with nine others with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of malicious damage to property.
Kayanda and her co-accused denied the three counts when they appeared before Lusaka magistrate Jane Bwalya yesterday.

“I enter a plea of not guilty on all counts for all the accused persons,” Ms Bwalya said.
Kayanda is jointly charged with Hilda Phiri, Dorothy Sishumba, Mary Kayombo, Exhildah Chisenga, Chilufasa Kaluta, Violet Mudenda, Sisi Nangwa, Albert Mule and Winwell Sichone.
Ms Bwalya also granted Kaluta K500 bail in his own recognisance with two sureties.
On counts one and two, it is said Kayanda and her co-accused, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, assaulted Mrs Chanda and her husband.

In count three, it is alleged that Kayanda and others, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown,  willfully and knowingly damaged a gate, building structure and building tools worth K6,000, the property of Mr Chanda.
The matter will come up for trial on November 28.
