MOZAMBIQUE coach Joao Chissano says Zambia are favourites to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Zambia has always qualified and looks good to qualify but we are doing our best.We are preparing to win the game. Anything can happen in the game of football,” Chissano said from Maputo yesterday.
Both Zambia and Mozambique are on five points but the Chipolopolo have a superior goal aggregate in Group F while leaders Cape Verde who have already qualified have nine points.
Niger have two points.
Two teams will qualify from each group and with the best losers.
Chissano said the current status favours Zambia to progress as runners-up.
Chissano, however, said Zambia will be under pressure to beat Mozambique next Saturday in Maputo.
He admitted matches against Zambia have always been tough and Mozambicans are aware.
Chissano said playing at home will not give Mozambique an edge because Zambia have always been superior whether home or away.
Chissano, who sympathised with Zambia over the death of President Sata, said Chipolopolo players are professionals and will handle the situation.
The two sides lockhorns three days after Sata’s burial.
“They know they must win to go to Morocco and I know Zambian players are professional. They know how to handle pressure. Condolences to the Zambian people for losing the President,” he said.
And Zambia coach Honour Janza has urged his players to ‘die a little’ when they face Mozambique.
Janza said in Lusaka yesterday that the match against Mozambique is important and the players should believe in themselves.
He said the team has to rise to the occasion and take up the challenge of representing the country with pride.
The team will regroup in Lusaka on Sunday and will start training the following day.
Janza said foreign- based players are expected to start to beef up the team on Monday.
