JASSY Singh eyes Motorsport title

JASSY Singh says his aim is to win the last national rally championship on the Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) 2014 calendar to reclaim the title.
The reigning African champion powered home an hour 34 minutes and 47 seconds to win the Meanwood General Insurance Monze rally in his new Subaru Impreza N16 at the weekend to take over leadership and open up a 13-point lead.
Jassy said in an interview that he was confident of winning the remaining rally and reclaim the title he lost to Ken Mukosa last year.
He described the Monze rally as tough as his car kept overheating but that luckily managed to finish the race to extend his points to 131 points.
“I am pretty sure I will win the national rally title after competing in the last round, the competition is tough but my 13 points will be difficult to overtake by anyone taking part in the race,” Jassy said.
Jassy, who missed some round of the national rally after his car was burnt to ashes during the Airtel Money Zambia International Motor Rally, said taking over leadership has given him renewed hope.
Second placed Muna Singh Junior, who is Jassy younger brother, said his focus is finish in second place.
“To be honest I would have loved to win the national rally but it is very hard to keep up with Jassy because he is not a driver but a machine,” Muna said.
Muna said his target is to finishing in second position though the competition between him and Geoffrey Chulu who is third on the log would be tough.
“Finishing in second place will be good enough for me, I just have to make sure Chulu does not displace me place during the last round,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chulu, who has enjoyed the larger share of the driver’s leadership this season, said Jassy deserved to win the 2014 title because he has fought hard to bounce back to the top.
Chulu said the battle will be between the top three drivers but was quick to say Jassy had better chances while it will need serious calculations for him or Muna to win the title.
