Congolese husband kills step child in Nchelenge

—-Police in Nchelenge district of Luapula province have launched a manhunt for a Congolese man in connection with the murder of a one-year-old girl.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, identified the deceased juvenile as Felistus Ilunga of Kafwalo village in Mununga chiefdom in Nchelenge district. 

In an interview with ZANIS this morning, Mr Mulenga said the suspect, only identified as Ilunga, hit the girl on the head during a fight with his wife, Berthsheba Kinaka, aged 21.

He said the incident happened on Monday around 18: 00 hours after the suspect started beating his wife for alleged failure to traditionally call him to the table after serving nshima.

Mr Mulenga said the suspect, believed to be the step father of the victim, is currently on the run and police officers in the area are doing everything possible to make him accountable.

The Provincial Police chief said the toddler suffered a damaged head and died instantly.

Mr Mulenga said the corpse was taken to Mbereshi Mission Hospital in Kawambwa district where post mortem will be conducted today before burial.
