Bee Products Company calls for funding
Kabompo, Oct 10/14, ZANIS——The Kabompo Bee Products Company in North-western province requires a total of K 2 million to fully recapitalise its honey production in Kabompo.
Kabompo Bee Products Manager, Gilpin Muhandu, told ZANIS in an interview in Kabompo that his company is facing serious financial constraints.
Mr Muhandu said over 6,000 bee-keepers in the province, who depend on the company to buy their honey, have been affected since the company went under five years ago.
He said in recent years Kabompo Bee Products have been unable to purchase honey on a large scale due to financial constraints.
The manager said the situation has impacted negatively on the bee keepers especially those living in far flung areas of Kabompo and Zambezi districts as they cannot find market for their honey.
Mr Muhandu has, however, expressed happiness that government, through the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), has shown willingness to assist the company with a loan of K500, 000 to revamp its operations.
He said once fully operational the company will be able to purchase honey from all the 6,000 bee keepers thereby creating employment for the local people.
