FRA urged to extend graining marketing season

Nakonde October 9,2014,ZANIS —  FARMERS in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province have appealed to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to extend the maize marketing season which closed on 7th October countrywide.

This came to Light when Chieftaines Waitwika Visited Mukalizi village recently to address her subjects on various issues, among them early marriages.

The farmers complained that the maize marketing season which opened on 25th September and closed on 7th October 2014 has left many farmers in the area in the cold as they are stuck with maize stocks which they were planning to sale to FRA.

One of the farmers Edwin Simusamba lamented that most farmers have not sold their maize as the period given to them was too short.

Mr Simusamba said farmers also complained of not having empty bags to package their maize for sale.

Efforts to get FRA Public Relations officer Daniel Msoka for comment on the matter were unsuccessful by broadcast time as her mobile phone was unreachable.
