Numerous pleasant performances today characterized parliament ground before President Michael Sata officially opened the fourth session of the 11th National Assembly in Lusaka.

Activities that were performed included cultural dances, fly past and march past by the defense forces.

The activities commenced at 08:30 hours in the morning before and after President Sata officially opened the session.

President Sata, who arrived at the parliament buildings at 10:45 hours in the company of First Lady Christine Kaseba, used his ceremonial official opening speech to set out government’s policy priorities for the coming year (2015).

New Members of Parliament in the house were ushered into the house before the official opening.

The new MPs are opposition UPND’s Dawson Kafwaya of Solwezi Central, Zambezi West’s Christabel Ngimbu (PF), Davies Chisopa of Mkushi South (PF), Margaret Miti (PF) and Rodgers Lingweshi (PF) of Vubwi and Mangango respectively.

MMD’s Victoria Kalima returns to the House as Kasenengwa Member of Parliament after retaining her seat in last week.

The Members of Parliament will next week be accorded an opportunity to debate the policy pronouncements in the President’s speech.

The Head of State was accorded a 21 gun salute by the second Battalion of the Zambia Army while the Zambia Air Force did a fly-past.

Mr. Sata inspected a guard of honour before he was ushered in the chamber by National Assembly Speaker, Patrick Matibini.

The President later left parliament at 11:45 hours.
