Prophet in court for indecently assaulting two women in one day

A Clergyman of Kaputa district has appeared in the Kaputa subordinate court charged with two counts of indecently assaulting two women.

Samson Chipili Kalumba 42,a Prophet from St. Moses God of Spirit (Mutumwa) Church in Kaputa is alleged to have indecently assaulted two women contrary to section 137 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

In the first count, Prophet Kalumba is on August 28,2014 alleged to have indecently assaulted Agnes Kabunda by touching her on the breast.

And in the second count, Kalumba is on the same date alleged to have indecently assaulted Chishimba Kabunda by touching her on the private parts and the vagina.

Prophet Kalumba  appeared for plea before Kaputa Magistrate Victor Mukupa but has  denied both charges.

The court has since adjourned the matter to 8th September 2014 for commencement of trial.

Kalumba has applied for bail from the court has been told to provide K2,000 cash with two working sureties.

 

Magistrate Mukupa said the court had no objection to grant him bail as the State prosecutors had allowed it adding that he will be released upon meeting the conditions.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Mukupa has convicted a 61 year- old man of Kaputa for using a mosquito net for fishing.

Musonda Braya Chanda who pleaded guilty to the charge was fined K2,000 or face ten months simple imprisonment in default.

And in another development Magistrate Mukupa has convicted 22 year-old Suse Mutapata to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for trafficking in cannabis.

 

Mutapata who was found with one roll of cannabis marijuana wrapped in dried banana leaves and seven balls of cannabis all weighing 82 grams pleaded guilty to the charge but said he was just given to sale the contraband by someone else .

And in passing judgment, Magistrate Mukupa said he felt pity on the victim because he was a youth and first offender hence giving him 12 months improvement saying he should use the time in prison to reform.

In a related development, the court has also put four people on defense for obstructing Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers in their execution of duty.

Magistrate Mukupa who read out the charge to the four said they are alleged to have obstructed DEC officers in the execution of duty while trying to arrest Mutapata who was earlier given a 12 months jail term for being in possession of seven balls of cannabis.

The four  are 24 year-old Alex Goma, Peter Kalungwe 27, John Kalumba 24 and Chibale Mukisi 35 who have however denied the charge.

The court has since adjourned the matter to 10th September 2014 for commencement of trial.
