A 46 year old man of Mumbwa District is nursing wounds at Mumbwa District Hospital after being attacked by a lioness as he was trying to answer the call of nature from a nearby bush.

Narrating the ordeal to ZANIS from the hospital bed when visited by Mumbwa District Commissioner Sunday Shamabanse today, Kebby Mukabe of Kapempe Village in Chief Kaindu said he met his fate at around 16.00hours yesterday as he was going home from work his three friends.

Mr Mukabe said he decided to answer a call of nature in the nearby bush when he heard a strange noise and a lioness emerged a few meters from where he was before he could finish his business.

He explained that he decided to climb a tree and but before he could reach the top his left leg was still dangling and was later captured by the beast.

He added that he firmly held the tree with one hand and tried to beat the lioness in the ear it fell down.

Mr Mukabe further said after challenging the beast it went away into the mountains and he was later rushed to Mumbwa District Hospital where he is currently admitted.

And Acting Mumbwa District Hospital Medical Superintendent Ruth Hamatanga confirmed that Mr Mukabe was being treated for animal bites.

Dr. Hamatanga said Mukabe is out of danger and but he is scheduled to do an X-ray to ascertain the extent of the wounds.

And Mr Shamabanse has commended the victim for his courage and he exhibited describing him as the Samson of Mumbwa.

The District Commissioner has said Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers have been dispatched to the area to comb the place to avoid further attacks.

He appealed to the people in the affected area to move in groups in case of danger so that they are able to assist each other.
