THE Kitwe High Court has sentenced a man of Chililabombwe to five years imprisonment with hard labour for attempting to steal a vehicle.
Kitwe High Court judge Dominic Sichinga on Monday jailed Chibanga Bukasa after upholding his conviction by the subordinate court.

Bukasa was committed to the High Court for confirmation of the conviction and sentence.
Bukasa, on September 20 last year in Chililabombwe, attempted to steal a Toyota Noah registration number ALC 5991 worth K33,000 from Fred Mukunta.
In mitigation through principal legal aid counsel Ignatius Chongwe, Bukasa urged the court to consider imposing the minimum statutory sentence provided by the law.
Mr Chongwe submitted that Bukasa is a first offender who had learnt valuable lessons from the time he was incarcerated.
He also submitted that Bukasa is married with a child.
Mr Justice Sichinga said he had considered Bukasa’s mitigation but that the offence he committed carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years imprisonment.
“I, therefore, sentence you to five years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date of your arrest,” Mr Justice Sichinga said.
