Shikapwasha, co-accused case fails to take off


Lusaka, August 11,ZANIS——–Trial in the case in which Former
Information Minister Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha,his
co-accused Dr. Sam Phiri and freelance journalist Chanda Chimba III
are charged with abuse of authority of office and corruption related
offenses failed to take off as the trial magistrate is unwell.

 


In this case General Ronnie Shikapwasha a politician, his former
Information Permanent Secretary Dr. Sam Phiri and Freelance Journalist
Chanda Chimba III are charged with abuse of office and unlawful
publication of a newspaper and possession of property suspected to be
proceeds of crime.

 


It is alleged that on dates unknown but between October 1 and
November 31, 2010 Lt Gen Shikapwasha and Dr Phiri, jointly and whilst
acting together, arbitrarily and in disregard of defamation laws and
ZNBC editorial policy directed ZNBC management to broadcast Chanda
Chimba’s documentary namely, Stand Up for Zambia, an act prejudicial
to the rights and interests of ZNBC, a public body.

 


The matter which is before Principle Magistrate Obbister Musukwa has
since been adjourned to August 14, 2014 for continuation of trial.
