Political violence erupts between candidates in Mulele ward campaigns

——Political violence is reported to have broken out in Mwansabombwe following allegations of candidates beating each other.


Laston Mwila, a Patriotic Front cadre, is alleged to have been assaulted by Richard Kabaso, an Independent Candidate, in the Mulele Ward Local Government by elections in Mwansabombwe Constituency slated for August 19, 2014.


Confirming the matter to ZANIS, in Mwansabombwe, Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, said Kabaso assaulted Mwila after he was found removing campaign portrait belonging to him.


Mr Mulenga said Kabaso used a fist in the act and that the complainant sustained a cut on the upper lip.


The matter was reported to police and a medical report has since been issued and Police have instituted investigations into the matter while a docket has also been opened.


Commenting on the matter, Mwansabombwe District Commissioner, Victor Kasuba, says he is not happy with the development.
