2)–Nangoma MP launches borehole drilling project

Nangoma area Member of Parliament Boyd Hamusonde has embarked on a borehole drilling exercise in his constituency.

The exercise involves the drilling of 20 boreholes this year at a cost of K300, 000.

The Nangoma MP plans to drill another 20 boreholes next year in order to address the critical shortage of water in his constituency.

Mr. Hamusonde told ZANIS in an interview in Nangoma yesterday that so far 13 boreholes have already been drilled in different parts of the constituency.

He said people in his area are facing a severe challenge in accessing clean and safe drinking water, a situation which has led them to draw water from shallow wells.

Mr. Hamusonde said thes situation has led to the outbreak of contagious diseases  such as diarrhea and dysentery.

He said the boreholes once drilled will significantly reduce the disease burden and uplift the living standards of the people.

He called on other cooperating partners to come on board and supplement government’s efforts in the provision of clean and safe water to the people of Nangoma.

Mr. Hamusonde said water was a critical component of life hence the need to ensure that people are given the opportunity to access a  good commodity.

He also revealed plans to construct two dams in the area where animals could be drinking from.

The Nangoma parliamentarian stated that the lack of dams in the area has been one of the contributing factors to the high corridor disease in the constituency.

And residents of Nangoma constituency have expressed gratitude to their Member of parliament for the gesture saying this will go a long way in uplifting their living standards.

One of the residents, Sherry Mwaalwa said the drilling of the boreholes in the area has come as a great relief to most people as they used to travel long distances in search of the commodity.

Mrs. Mwaalwa said the shortage of water in the area was critical and many people are forced to draw water from unsafe sources like shallow wells.

Another resident, Albert Mbinga called for more boreholes to be drilled in the area for many people to be able to access clean water in the area.

He noted that Nangoma constituency was quite vast and as such needed many more boreholes to be sunk to benefit the majority of the people.
