PSPF confirms CEO’s suspension

Lusaka, July 24,ZANIS——The Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) board chairman Moses Banda has confirmed that the Funds Chief Executive Officer Thomas Phiri has been suspended.

Dr Banda said in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the suspension is aimed to pave way for investigations by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC)into allegations of abuse of office.

Dr. Banda said the decision to suspend Mr Phiri was made during the Fourth Extraordinary Board meeting held on July 18,2014.

Dr. Banda said Mr Phiri will remain suspended for the duration  of the investigations being conducted by the ACC.

He added that the board has since appointed Dr. Richard Mwiinga to act as PSPF Chief Executive for administrative convenience during the period of Mr Phiri’s  suspension.

Last month, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) Executive Director Goodwell Lungu challenged PSPF Board of Directors to clearly state their position on the allegations against Mr Phiri.

Mr Lungu challenged the PSPF to explain allegations that the PSPF CEO used his influence to obtain a tender for Kath Limited whose two directors according to documents at the Patents and Companies Registration Authority (PACRA)  are alleged to be his children.
