Kasama District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya said this is because the most productive age group between 15 and 45 years were at risk of the infection.

He was speaking when he officiated at the delayed national VCT day held at Lukupa in Kasama yesterday.

Mr. Bwalya said the productive age group is the engine of the economy which if left unprotected the country risked losing its economic gains achieved in the last 50 years of independence.

He called for concerted efforts from all key players in the fight against the epidemic.

The DC bemoaned the effects which have been brought about by the epidemic notable among them, family disintegration and increase in school dropouts.
