——The Kaoma magistrate court has set August 1, 2014 as the date for judgment in the case involving three Barotseland National Youth League activists.

Appearing before Magistrate Borniface Mwala, were Nayoto Mwenda 32, Boris Muziba 36, and Sikwibele Wasilota 33, who are jointly charged with the offence of publication of false news with intent to alarm and cause fear or to disturb peace contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Magistrate Mwala told a parked court that he could not proceed with the case as the trial magistrate Julius Malata was not available.

The  court through state prosecutor Inspector Dominic Lubinda set July 9 and 25 as dates for mention, while August 1, as the day of judgment.

Meanwhile, one of the accused Nayoto Mwenda complained that their five months detention and continuous stay in Kaoma state prison was a violation of human rights which is contrary to the United Nations charter on the Bill of rights.

Mr Mwenda objected to the two set mentions and judgment contending that the Zambian Government should not continue with the case as they are not Zambians but Barotseland nationals.

But magistrate Mwala maintained his stance that he was not their trial magistrate.

And the Barotse National Youth League (BNYL) sympathizers who thronged the Kaoma court premises sung solidarity songs supporting the trio as they were being whisked away by armed police officers to Kaoma state prison.
