PARLIAMENT has unanimously ratified the appointments of Attorney General Mumba Malila and Justice Roydah Mwanakulya Kaoma as Supreme Court judges.

The House also ratified the appointments of justices Mwamba Chanda, Yvonne Chembe, Mwila Chibwe-Kombe and Lishomwa Nawa Muuka to serve as High Court judges.

Chairperson of the parliamentary committee appointed to scrutinize the appointees, Kapembwa Simbao, told the House that his team was satisfied with the Presidential decision to elevate the appointees.

“We noted, as a committee, that the appointees were personalities of high caliber with no criminal records. The only concern was in regards to justice Chanda, who witnesses said she delayed judgments before she was appointed to serve as a judge at the Industrial Relations Court but she is now operating timely,” said Simbao.

In seconding the motion, Chipili PF member of parliament Davies Mwila said the appointees were above board and that the committee was satisfied with their selection.

In contributing to the debate, Mwandi MMD member of parliament Michael Kaingu urged the appointing authority to also consider long serving magistrates in such appointments.
