—At least 406 units of blood have been collected in Kawambwa district in readiness for the World Blood Donors’ Day commemorations which falls on June 14.

Luapula Province Blood Coordinator, Chrispin Kafulambeka, confirmed this in an interview with Zambia New and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kawambwa yesterday.

Mr Kafulambeka said the response from the blood donors in Kawambwa district has been very good.

He has, however, called on other people to come forward, donate blood and celebrate the World Blood Donors’ Day.

Mr Kafulambeka explained that people who are supposed to donate blood are males and females weighing 45 kg and aged between 16 and 65 years.

He added that donating blood has benefits as the bone marrow of people, especially sportsmen and women, improves greatly.

Mr Kalembeka has since encouraged the people of Kawambwa to come in numbers and donate blood, noting that donors will walk away with awards
such as cell phones and wall clocks as appreciation.

He pointed out that it will be the first time for Kawambwa district to celebrate such an occasion and chief Munkanta will be the special guest.
