The opposition Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD in Northern Province has vowed to make the region ungovernable if the PF government dares to arrest Henry Kanyanta Sosala the paramount chief Chitimukulu designate.
MMD regional Chairperson Stephen Mukuka charged that his party will not allow the ruling PF to continue demeaning paramount Chief Chiti Mukulu of the Bemba people.
Mr. Mukuka has since called on members of the public to continue relying behind the appointed of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people.
NAREP STANCE –
Meanwhile, the National Restoration Party (NAREP) has challenged the House of Chiefs to come out in the open and state its position regarding the continued impasse between traditional leaders and the patriotic front government.
NAREP General Secretary Bwalya Nondo noted that House of Chiefs Chairperson Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo the third should break the silence on what he termed as harassment of traditional leaders by the PF.
Mr. Nondo challenged Her Royal Highness to categorically state her position on the recent threats by the government through Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo that chiefs masquerading as chiefs should be arrested which was in apparent reference to Chitimukulu the designate Henry Kanyanta Sosala.
Chief Mukuni –
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya people of Southern Province has argued that the recognition of a Chief by the Head of State alone does not make one a Chief in the eyes of the subjects.
UPND STANCE –
And opposition United for National Development UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has urged PF government to stop overstepping and interfering in traditional matters.
Mr. Hichilema cited the continued bulling and tormenting of the Bemba speaking people by the PF government following the appointment of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu by BASHILU BEMBA.
He said there is no dispute regarding the appointment of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as MWINE LUBEMBA and wondered why government is interfering in the people’s choice.
Mr. Hichilema further noted that his party recognizes Henry Kanyanta Sosala as the duly appointed Paramount Chief Chitimukulu who must be allowed to settle and the people of Zambia.
