-At least 181 United Party for National Development (UPND) members have defected to join the Patriotic Front (PF) in Luano district.

Group Representative, Conhill Hamainda, said he and the other defectors decided to leave UPND because they wanted to work with the ruling party in order to foster development in the newly created district.

In welcoming the defectors, PF Luano District Chairperson, Mathews Mukanaka, said they had made a good decision, adding that the PF government was committed to improving the livelihood of the people in Luano district.

Mr Mukanaka cited improvement in developmental projects, among them the construction of roads, schools and health centres.

And PF Luano District Treasurer, Davis Chisopa, urged party officials to embrace the defectors and work with them without discrimination.

Mr Chisopa further appealed to the people of Mkushi South Constituency to vote for a candidate in the upcoming by elections based on one’s capacity to spearhead development.

Meanwhile, Constituency Chairlady, Georgina Mutale, called on women and the youth to participate in clubs within their communities so that government channels assistance to them through the clubs.

Ms Mutale said the PF government placed job creation, especially among women and the youth as the top most strategy to ensure that development was being delivered to Luano district and the country at large.
