The Zambia Wildlife Authority -ZAWA- has arrested and charged a truck driver at Kazungula border post for illegal possession of 16 pieces of Ivory, weighing 221Kilogrammes.

Matekenya Matekenya, 31 of Kachacha compound in Choma who was driving a truck registration Number AKB 1039 belonging to Cheap-line General Dealers, was arrested after the Zambia Revenue Authority detected the ivory pieces he was carrying on the truck.

Matekenya was entering Zambia from Botswana heading to Lusaka at the weekend.

ZAWA Public Relations Officer, Mwila Muliyunda says in a statement that Matekenya will appear in court soon.

She says ZAWA is grateful for the effort and help rendered by Zambia Revenue Authority in detecting illegal contrabands and alerting the ZAWA.
