The Commuter Rights Association has appealed to government not to allow bus operators in the country to increase bus fares following the hike in fuel pump prices.

Association President Aaron Kamuti says his organization’s appeal to government is in view of the fact that transport operators have already started contemplating on adjusting the bus fares.

Mr. Kamuti says it is important that bus operations realize that hike in fuel pump prices has further pushed high the cost of living in the country hence the need for them to come to the understanding that the majority poor Zambians will be more affected if the bus fares are increased.

He says if government allows a situation where transport costs are increased it will be unfair to the travelling public.

Mr. Kamuti says it is for this reason why his association assures the travelling public of its full support as it opposes any adjustments to bus fares in view of the hiked fuel pump prices in the country.
