Zambia sports minister Chishimba Kambwili is confident they will be ready when the CAF inspection team comes to examine the country’s infrastructure as part of the Africa Cup of Nations bidding process.

Zambia are up against Algeria, Cameroon, DR Congo, Gabon, Guinea and Ivory Coast in the race for the rights to host the 32nd edition of AFCON in 2019.

Progress in the construction of stadia in Mongu and Livingstone has stalled because of financial difficulties however, but the sports minister has confirmed that funding will be made available.

“We are very prepared for the CAF inspectors, in fact on Monday I had a meeting with the minister of finance where we discussed the construction of the Mongu Stadium and he directed the permanent secretary in charge of budgeting to fund the construction of the stadium,” said Kambwili.

“On the part of government, we are very committed to ensuring that the stadia that we put in the bid are constructed and we are confident that we will win the bid.”

The hosts of the tournament will be announced after the final vote at the CAF Executive Committee meeting scheduled for September.
