THE Zambia Squash Association (ZSA) has commenced trials to select the national team to represent the country at the first-ever All-Africa Squash Championships and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
ZSA president Norena Chiteba said yesterday that her association wanted to pick the best team which could produce the desired results at the two major international competitions Zambia would be involved in this year.
Chiteba said the cream of Zambian squash would be tested before an intensive camping programme was arranged for the team ahead of the two competitions.
“The nationals team selection trials are underway this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The team selection is for the All Africa Squash Championships and the Commonwealth Games to be held in May and July respectively.
“The trials start at 10:00 hours on both days at the Lusaka Club -Squash Section. We have all the top players so it will be a great weekend,” she said.
Some of the players taking part in the competition are Kelvin “the kelvinator” Ndhlovu, Manda Chilambwe and Mwiinga Lengwe on the men’s side and from the women side of the game nationalchampion Sharon Chimfwembe and current junior champion Monica Chimese are among the players making up the field.
