—–Muchinga Provincial Agricultural Coordinator (PACO), Victor Mulopa, says the province anticipates a 10 per cent increase in this year’s harvest.

Dr Mulopa disclosed this with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS)  in his today.

Dr Mulopa said this year’s harvest is likely to increase to about 225 from last year’s 105 metric tonnes.

He said despite few challenges coupled with late distribution of farming inputs, the province is likely to record a bumper harvest.

The PACO said to this effect the Ministry Agricultural has embarked on a programme to train agriculture assistant’s country-wide on crop focus with the partnership of the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

Dr Mulopa added that in line with the programme the province has sent 13 Agricultural Assistants to Mpika who will in the next three to four weeks implement the programme.

He further said the reduction in army worms this year will also help contribute towards the province recording a bumper harvest.
