A 60-year-old man has been killed by a crocodile in Lake Bangweulu in Chilubi district of Northern Province.

Chilubi District Commissioner, Boniface Kamanda, who confirmed the development to ZANIS in the area today, named the deceased as James Katimbe of Mule village in chief Matipa’s area.

Mr Kamanda said Katimbe met his fate when he was on a canoe trying to cross the lake around 06:00 hours over the weekend.

The DC said the people who were nearby the lake heard the deceased screaming for help but when they rushed to the scene it was too late.

He said after a search was conducted by his relatives only parts of his body remains, such as intestines and a leg were recovered.

Mr Kamanda has since appealed to Government to urgently set up a permanent Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) office in order to protect people’s lives in the district.

It is barely a week when another person who is also believed to be the younger brother of the deceased was killed by a crocodile in the same area.
