Government has continued to sensitize the residents of Kuku and Kanyama compounds on the importance of them moving from flood prone areas, Lusaka District Commissioner Ashwell Kampengele has disclosed.

Mr. Kampengele has however expressed sadness that the residents in the two areas have continued to face resistance.

He told ZANIS that he could not understand why people have continued to live in the flood prone areas when most of them do not even own the houses they are staying in.

He said many residents were just renting the houses hence making it easy for them to relocate to other houses in safer compounds.

Last year, government warned the residents of Kuku and Kanyama compounds that it would no longer offer help if the areas were flooded because it had given the residents ample time to find alternative accommodation elsewhere.
