—Zesco says some illegal connections and careless usage of electricity in some parts of the country have contributed to the continued load shedding in the country.

Zesco Spokesperson, Henry Kapata, says the company is aware of some illegal connections across the country which he said damage property in some households whenever power is switched off.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Kapata said when there is a fault in some parts of the city the power is deliberately switched off to protect people’s properties from getting damaged.

Mr Kapata further said the company is constructing more hydro-power stations which include some sub-stations in the country to increase generation capacity.

He said the newly built sub-stations will reduce load shedding in the country and appealed to the Zambian citizenry to be switching off the appliances after use to save power.

He denied assertions that electricity is being taken to neighbouring countries except during off-pick times when electricity is not being used to the optimum in Zambia.

Mr Kapata further urged Zambians to use qualified technicians when connecting electricity to their homes
