CEC Liquid Telecoms, an Information Technology Company (ICT), has predicted that the optical fibre will lead the next wave of ICT growth and realisation of a knowledge-based economy (KBE) for Zambia.

CEC Liquid Telecoms managing director Chabuka Kawesha said in response to a Press query on his organisation’s expectations for the industry in 2014 that the future looked bright given the Government’s and the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority’s (ZICTA) role.

Dr Kawesha also acknowledged the important role that stakeholders like Airtel, MTN, Zamtel and all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) played in 2013 towards the sustainable growth of the ICT sector.

“And as a member of this great family we applaud and salute all of them for the positive impact we have all played in developing Zambia’s ICT sector,” he said.

Dr Kawesha called on the public and private sector to research on the advantages of optic fibre and enhance their connectivity experience.

CEC Liquid Telecoms is a major player in Zambia’s optic fibre deployment for Internet – wholesale.

The company has built and operates a fast-growing countrywide fibre network over which it would provide wholesale capacity and terrestrial Internet bandwidth to public and private institutions.

CEC Liquid Telecoms also provides access to alternative international terrestrial telecommunications gateways.

The telecoms organisation has since 2011 contributed to the increase in broadband capacity into and within Zambia and increased competition as well as helped reduce end-user prices, and made its presence felt at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference.
