ZAMBEEF Product Plc says it will focus on expanding its agricultural projects next year to contribute significantly to food security both locally and abroad.
The group is one of the largest integrated agri-businesses involved in production, processing, distribution and retailing of beef, chicken, pork, milk and other dairy products.
Other products are eggs, edible oils, stockfeed, flour and bread.
Company special assistant to the chief executive officer for operations and agronomist Felix Lupindula projects that next year will be exciting for the company, which will embark on a massive expansion drive.
“Of course, we had difficulties mid this year and I don’t want to dwell much on that. But going forward, it is something [agricultural projects] we are growing … and we look forward to the positive side of growing the firm.
We are looking at 2014 as a very exciting year and we hope to ensure that we bring the company to where it is supposed to be,” Mr Lupindula said in an interview in Chiawa recently.
Currently, the Chiawa farm, which has over 1,650 hectares, produces an average of six metric tonnes of wheat per hectare.
Mr Lupindula, however, could not give actual figures of how much wheat it has produced.
“Our wheat production has been six tonnes per hectare… we are a processing firm, figures keep changing. We have a processing plant in Chisamba which produces wheat meal for the market,” he said.
The group is also involved in large cropping operations for maize, soya bean and wheat with about 8,350 hectares of crops under irrigation and 8,650 hectares rain-fed.
