FIFTEEN of the 20 Zambians from Chief Chanje’s area in Chipata District, who were arrested and imprisoned in Malawi for encroaching on Kasungu National Park, have been rescued by the relatives and are back home.

Chief Chanje of the Chewa people said yesterday that his subjects returned home this week.

He said there were still five incarcerated Zambians in Malawi.

According to the traditional leader, some relatives of the imprisoned Zambians sold cattle and farm produce to pay the fines charged by a Malawian court.

He said some well-wishers from Lusaka had also shown interest to assist those still in custody.

Chief Chanje challenged the Zambian and Malawian governments to quickly find an amicable solution to cross-border matters that were affecting people from both countries.

He said Zambians usually faced problems in trading in Malawi, while Malawians come into Zambia and conducted their business without being harassed.
