– Kafubu water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) has written off 70 percent of outstanding water bills for over 18, 000 Ndola based customers amounting to K20 million.

Company public relations officer Margret Zulu said the write off would be effected to customers in the southern Zone of the city on a fixed rate charge for the period they did not have water supply dating back to August 2013.

“Yes the company has considered a write off on water charges to customers on fixed rate in the southern zone” , she said.

Ms Zulu disclosed that some of the areas targeted for the write off were Kabushi extension, Masala, Lubuto, Sky ways, Ndeke and Mushili bonano.

In an interview, Ms Zulu further disclosed that the write off comes after the completion of the Japanese international corporation JICA funded water project in the area .

She further noted that customers faced erratic water supply during the rehabilitation period in which the company continued billing its clients on a fixed rate.

Ms Zulu further noted that clients would soon start noticing adjustments on their water bills but however stressed that the company will however continue billing clients on their sewerage accounts as the service was never interrupted.

She further advised clients to continue servicing their water bills as the company will not hesitate to disconnect them.

Meanwhile, some customers in Masala area have demanded for a 100 percent write off on their outstanding water bills.

Falari Kaputula of main Masala area bemoaned that she has not had water supply dating as far back as the year 2008 which would justify a 100 percent write off on her water bill.

Florence Mwamba of Mushili bonano said it is not prudent for her to pay for a service that was not available.
