Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, has praised Matero United Football Club for qualifying to FAZ Division Two after a long struggle in Division Three trying to earn promotion.

Mr Sampa, who is also Commerce Deputy Minister, said the team needs to be given a part on the back for their tireless effort they have achieved in the football fraternity.

He said this today during the award giving ceremony held at Nsimbiyanga Pleasure Resort in Matero today.

Mr Sampa said the club has been struggling in Division Three (3) from 2009 when the team started playing in that category until when their much-cherished dream came to reality this year.

“We have to commend the team for their hard work. They have brought glory to Matero Constituency, a thing which needs to be embraced by the people of the area and the nation at large,” Mr Sampa said.

He said young people need to put much emphasis on sport because it makes them to develop their talents for their own benefit.

And Mr Sampa has advised young people to desist from engaging themselves in bad vices which might jeopardise their future.

Mr Sampa stated that youths are future leaders who need to behave in a responsible manner in order to take the country forward.

He said as Matero area Member of Parliament, he will ensure that sport for the young people is developed not only in Matero but the rest of the country.

The area MP also advised the youths to be extremely careful as they celebrate the Christmas and New Year to avoid ruining their future.

Mr Sampa cautioned the young people to avoid engaging in unwanted fights which do not build them in any way during the festive season.

He hailed the team managers for Matero United Football Club for their role they played in making sure that the team qualifies to Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Division Two league season.

He urged the team to put a spirited fight when the soccer season resumes in order for them to qualify to the premier league next year.

“The team should work so hard next year in order to qualify to Division One next year. They should not relax but instated work hard for their benefit,” Mr Sampa said.

Meanwhile, Muchinga Ward 24 councillor in Matero, Lee Mukupa, thanked the area Member of Parliament and other stake holders for their support to the team.
Mr Mukupa said the gesture should continue even during the coming years in order for the young team to continue achieving success in football.

He added that football and other sport activities play an important role in developing the young people in the country as it is a source of income for those who are serious.
