Mutapa beefs up midfield ahead of COSAFA

ZAMBIA Under-20 coach, Oswald Mutapa has drafted Norway-based midfielder, Austin Banda from Valrarenga to the final squad that leaves for Lesotho this Sunday to defend the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Youth Championship.

The COSAFA tournament is scheduled to take place in Maseru, Lesotho from December 3 to 14.

Mutapa said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the addition of Banda will add fire power to the midfield.

And Mutapa said the players were in good form and ready to defend the cup at all costs.

“I have been talking to the players; their focus is to defend the COSAFA title for three conservative times. The boys are not going to underrate any team. The challenge is on the participating teams who are eyeing the trophy,” he said.

The team is scheduled to leave for Lesotho this Sunday.

Zambia is in group C alongside Namibia, South Africa and Seychelles.

The full squad includes; Goalkeepers Mangani Banda and Godfrey Silavwe; Defenders: Timothy Sakala, Boyd Mkandawire, Alex Mwamba, Kapota Kayawe, Simon Tembo and Mofya Lwandamina.

Midfieders are; Solomon Sakala, Spencer Sautu, Langson Mbewe, Ackim Mumba, Lubambo Musonda, Dave Daka, Godfrey Ngwenya and Austin Banda.

Strikers: Ronald Chibwe, Patson Daka, Jonathan Manongo, Benedict Chepeshi, and George Mandu.
