Zambia midfielder Rainford Kalaba has made list of 21 nominees for the 2013 CAF African-based player award.

The TP Mazembe player is the only Zambian player nominated in one of the two CAF player awards category for this year’s honours.

Kalaba is vying for the continental -based honour together with two of his Mazembe  teammates.

The Zambia midfielder made the list after shrugging off injury that hit him early this year to help propel the DR Congo club to the final of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Mazembe face CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup final on November 23 in the first leg in Tunisia while the return leg is set for November 30 in Lubumbashi.
The other Mazembe nominees are striker Mbwana Samatta from Tanzania and DR Congo midfielder Tresor Mputu.
However, they face stiff competition for the award from 2013 Africa Cup winner and Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Mba.
Also in the chase is the 2013 CAF Champions League victors Al Ahly’s talismanic playmaker Mohammed Aboutreika including his club mates Walid Soliman and Ahmed Fathy.
Losing finalists Orlando Pirates’ trio of midfielder Daine Klate, goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa and striker Lennox Bacela have all made the list.
The winner will be announced at an awards gala on January 9 in Lagos, Nigeria.
