President Michael Sata has been commended for putting to an end leadership wrangles surrounding the Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka District office.

On Monday yesterday, besides directing the provincial committee to call for a district conference where a new Lusaka district chairperson will be elected, President Sata also denied ever appointing Chawama constituency chairperson Robert Chikwelete as PF Lusaka District chairperson.

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has observed that even though the move by the President should have come much earlier it is important for the PF leadership in Lusaka province to hasten in holding the election of District chairperson.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says this will help restore proper party structures in the District in order the PF as whole can move on.

Mr. Cheembe has however urged the PF Lusaka province leadership to ensure that the election of party District chairpersonship is held in a manner that promotes transparency and fairness in order that the general membership of the party in the District can freely choose a new leadership.

Mr. Cheembe has also advised the PF leadership to ensure that in future the general membership of the party should be acquainted with the party guidelines to avoid leadership wrangles as has been witness in Lusaka District.

The SACCORD Executive Director was speaking to Qfm in an interview.
